The Aging TRACTS (ATRACTS) study aims to learn about brain and behavioral changes in middle-aged and older Veterans. We hope to better understand the impact combat exposure has on brain function and risk of Alzheimer’s Disease in individuals who have been deployed. We will examine whether combat exposure in early adulthood contributes to the risk for cognitive impairment and development of Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia. This opens the potential for interventions to reduce these conditions in military Veterans.

Like TRACTS, this study uses many different types of health information, including background health data from questionnaires and medical records, physical health data from a blood draw and medical exam, cognitive health data from neuropsychological assessments, mental health data from a psychological assessment, and brain structure and connectivity data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) scans. All of this data is brought together to answer our study questions holistically, taking each participant’s unique background and experiences into account.
